  • Seafood Festival

The annual Avalon Chamber of Commerce Seafood Festival takes place this weekend.

29th Street and Avalon Avenue (beach parking lot);  Saturday and Sunday between 11am and 5pm.

Local food vendors, music, and crafts.

Also, on Saturday, walk next door the Community Hall for the Green Fair- 10am to 3pm.

The retail shops in Avalon and Stone Harbor are open for the long weekend, too-  showing their appreciation for your business with end of season sales!

  • Welcome Fall 2012

Right on cue: a bright and chilly Sunday morning.

Planning ahead: The annual Avalon Chamber Seafood Festival will be held Columbus Day Weekend, October 6th and 7th.  Food, music, and vendors at 29th Street and Avalon Avenue.  That same weekend, participants of the Cape Express Soccer Tournament take over the fields in Avalon and Stone Harbor.  And on Saturday, October 6th, the Green Fair will take place inside the Avalon Community Hall from 10am to 3pm.

  • Weekend Event

With the date change for the annual Wings n’ Water Festival (held in July this year), the Stone Harbor Chamber of Commerce organized a replacement event:

Savor September- Food and Wine Festival.  96th Street shopping district on Saturday, September 15th.  12 noon to 8pm.

Those of us working all weekend appreciate that the music and food vendors will be on hand past 5pm- looking forward to stopping by after work.

  • Beach Traffic

Time to look both ways as you walk onto the beach: permits for approved vehicles are now available in Avalon and Stone Harbor.

When you pay for the permit, the Borough will provide a list of the required safety items needed in the vehicle, as well as the specific access dates/hours.

While this permit is “technically” for fishing…I have heard there are residents who like to pick up sandwiches from Wawa and eat dinner with an ocean view 😉

  • Nuns’ Beach

Great article posted on nj.com about our favorite local celebrity: Sister James Dolores, IHM

By the way, the annual Nuns’ Beach Surf Contest is scheduled for this Saturday, September 8th.

A wonderful family event benefiting a worthy cause.

  • Birders

    A sign of fall?

The birders are returning to Stone Harbor Point.

I noticed a couple sitting IN the water this morning to capture their shot.  And another woman was walking toward the ocean with a large camera and tripod.

    ‘Tis the season!

P.S.  A fun treat- this is what happens when a photographer/videographer vacations in Stone Harbor: http://vimeo.com/47427544

  • Sand Castle, continued

This is the “before” picture taken on Saturday morning (105th Street, Stone Harbor):

I posted the “during” shot in my previous blog post (still without a clue of the purpose or event).

And this is the “after” picture- The Sand Guys finished their creation last night:

The artist was hired to create the sculpture for a private individual (depicting his varied interests and activities).  The Sand Guys can also be seen on the Discovery Channel.

Check it out if you are in the area!

  • Sand Castle

I noticed the large pile of sand Saturday morning on 105th Street, Stone Harbor.

It became an immediate attraction for the kids on the beach!

As of late yesterday afternoon, the sand was being transformed into “beach art”.

Will check it out again today after work for an update.
