Mold

Even before Sandy, mold was a concern for homes along the shore.  I have provided tips for mold prevention in previous blog posts: https://anndelaney.com/2011/04/21/open-crawl-space-vents/

Real estate agents and property buyers/sellers need to be pro-active as we move forward.

1) Sellers should disclose if there was water on their property- even if limited to the garage or crawl space. If remediation occurred, ask seller to provide documentation.

2) Buyers – a thorough home inspection is important.  Inspectors will note if there are any issues in the crawl space; or if new duct work/insulation has been installed.

3) Agents should be forthcoming with any concerns regarding flood damage.  We know the areas of greater risk, and it’s our responsibility to ask questions and provide the facts.
