  • Kayaking

First time out kayaking for 2015.  Finally the wind, tide, and my early morning schedule cooperated!

A bit foggy…and had to keep moving to out run the gnats 😉  Good to be back on the bay.

  • Equipment- Avalon Beach Fill

Monday- 11am.  An active staging area by the 8th Street jetty in preparation of the north end beach fill.  Currently, beach and jetty access is open on 8th Street, and a lifeguard is stationed on 9th Street.

The only pipe in place is the one over the jetty.  Pipes will be installed and run parallel along the beach to carry sand once the dredge arrives from Strathmere.

As the project proceeds south from 9th Street, the beaches on either side will be closed for safety reasons.  Once the new sand is graded, beaches will re-open.  Access paths over the pipe will be built (with sand).

I was lucky with the timing of my morning walk (between 2 storms).  Beautiful views!

  • Synthetic lawns

A new trend?  A local builder recommends installing an artificial grass product around the rear yard pool.  Low maintenance, and less mess.

I saw an example yesterday- and I have to say- it looks great.  The property has real grass in the front yard, and artificial grass behind the pool fence.  A seamless view of green in the summer!

  • Heat Wave

I took this picture last Friday- the dedicated Stone Harbor lifeguards were bundled up and using the umbrella to block the chilly wind!

Warmer summer temperatures have returned 🙂

  • Osprey

ospreyOn my beach walks, I am able to observe the “ultimate hunters” at work- the osprey.

I watch them dive into the ocean, emerge with a fish securely in their talons, and then fly overhead toward the marsh.

The “ultimate scavengers” (seagulls) follow close behind- just in case the fish manages to wiggle free!
