Crazy weather today- partly sunny with the occasional torrential downpour!
Posting a few pictures from last summer to remain focused on better beach days ahead. Â The last photo was taken on July 4th- lifeguards leading a patriotic sing along, and races for the kids.
The island will remain at full capacity all week for the holiday. Â My “commute” to work this morning took a few extra minutes due to bicycle traffic and pedestrian cross walks 😉

Translating the local dialect:
If you hear someone say “I am going to the Court House”, no need to worry about any legal drama. Â What they mean is “Cape May Court House”. Â This statement is interchangeable with “I’m going off shore”.
“Go play in the gully”. Â We don’t call them tide pools.
“Jimmies”, never sprinkles (well, maybe if referring to the rainbow version…but who really orders those??)
Ocean Drive = Avalon; Third Avenue = Stone Harbor. Â Likewise, Dune Drive = Avalon; Second Avenue = Stone Harbor.
The other day, I heard a tenant directing her children to the “Five and Dime” across the street. I told her she is dating herself  😉
We are approaching our prime rental season, and the warm summer temperatures have arrived on cue.
This combination will encourage last minute vacation planners to check availability and book a Jersey shore rental.

It’s that time of year already- The Islandman Triathlon (a Tim Kerr Charities event).
Race Director Midge Kerr, needs volunteers for the bike course portion of the race. Â This is a closed course event for the safety of the participants (when you see how fast the riders pass, you will understand!)
Saturday, June 29th between 7:15am and 9:45am. Coverage requested for each block on Avalon and First Avenues along the course. Volunteers will receive FREE logo wind jackets.

High tide, a calm morning, and up early enough to finally take my kayak out on the bay. Â A perfect start to my work day.
For some odd reason, the large plastic kayak felt heavier after spending the winter in storage! Â And, I had to rely on muscle memory to paddle faster than the gnats…
Interesting to see the bay properties from this vantage point. Â Several owners have yet to replace their docks after Sandy.
The BIG news is: Â the sun has returned! Â Beautiful beach weather….finally 🙂
Stone Harbor- Beach Fill, continued
The dredging crew is back on site and working 24/7 to complete the Stone Harbor project by the end of July.
As of last night, beach access was blocked between 97th through 95th Streets. Â Once the new sand is graded, Â beach paths will be re-opened. Â The project will continue to move north at a steady pace.
P.S. ALL beach paths remained open today, allowing beach goers easier access around the on going project. We were able to walk behind the staging area for the 3 blocks under construction.  I posted a new video on my YouTube channel., too.
