I Don’t Sell Houses

MaymorningWell, technically I do.  Yet I know I’m really selling access to a unique and ever changing environment.

Every morning, I am genuinely in awe of my view as I walk over the beach path- what a great way to start the day!

There are plenty of options for a “beach house”- from a small condo or cottage, to a large, custom home.  Realistic prices and low interest rates are great incentives, too!

If you know anyone looking for a beach house (to buy or rent), I appreciate the opportunity to help!  ann@anndelaney.com

Dogs with Summer Homes

dogI’ve noticed a definite increase of dogs with summer homes at the shore.  And the local municipalities have eased the beach walking restrictions to accommodate this trend.

However, 2 basic rules still apply:  pick up after your pet, and the dog must ALWAYS be on a leash.

I am not a dog owner, but as a mother, I can relate to the emotions.  Letting an unleashed dog run up to a stranger walking along the beach is the equivalent of a mom saying “Isn’t my baby cute…do you want to hold him?”  In that case, the stranger can politely say no.  But with a dog, it’s not that simple.

Watching the Dog Whisperer has helped.  I avoid eye contact with the charging dog, keep my pace, and hope for the best.  My Cesar Millan skills worked this morning with an energetic black lab.  Yet in the past, I have been chased, jumped on (knocking my iPod to the ground), growled at, etc.  A reasonable request to leash the dog is often answered with “don’t worry, he won’t hurt you”.

Okay- that’s my rant for the summer.  See you on the beach!

Saturday at the Shore

jettyFresh salt air, a comfortable breeze, bright sunshine, and the beach Zamboni (yes, I watched the Flyer’s game) keeping  me company on my early morning walk!

Now, off to work.  Enjoy the weekend 🙂

A New Look

101stThe view from the water’s edge toward the 101st Street pavilion in Stone Harbor has changed…for the better.   The huge, rusty outfall pipe has been removed  (along with others in that immediate area).  What a difference.  The beach looks so much bigger.

No sneakers today for my beach walk- time to toughen up my feet.  This was a big deal when we were young… we wouldn’t even wear flip flops back and forth to the beach!

Cars are arriving on the island.  Expecting a busy weekend.

Island Restaurant Week

diningAvalon and Stone Harbor restaurants will be participating in the 7 Mile Restaurant Week:  June 4th through June 11th.

Specials will be offered for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  For example, a 3 course dinner will be a bargain at $29.50.  Retail businesses will be partnering with the restaurants to offer special discounts, too.

As someone who prefers not to cook…this sounds like a great week!

Getting better…

WindJettyI took this picture late yesterday-  a damp and windy day at the beach.

The sun is out today- still chilly, but the weather report promises a beautiful weekend at the shore!

Memorial Day weekend is the latest it can be this year.   Most seasonal businesses are opening the week before or sooner.  Only 2 weeks to go…

Stone Harbor beaches

dunefencingThe outfall pipe removal project continues between 99th and 109th Streets in Stone Harbor.

FYI- if you are walking along that section of beach, watch for sinkholes where pilings have been removed…they will swallow your sneakers!

Another Seashore Tradition

springersspringerslist Springer’s Ice Cream in Stone Harbor has a sign on their front door- open weekend of May 15th.  That gives us a few days to review the list posted outside and select a flavor 😉

Beach Fill Project- Avalon

9thStreetGood news…the equipment is in place on the 9th Street beach for the Avalon beach fill project.  Tractors are connecting pipes and preparing the work area.

12thStreetSouthThe pumped sand will cover the exposed rocks at the edge of the dunes- allowing for safe pathways to the new beach (working south from 9th to 26th Streets).

Just in time for summer!

5/13/10 Update: Great Lakes Dredging Company has arranged for an additional dredge in order to complete the 2 projects quickly.  Work in Avalon will start on May 20th, and be completed by June 6th.  Sea Isle’s project will be completed by June 12th.

Funny…to me

bikelaneNoticed this sign at the END of Dune Drive in Avalon– right before the jetty rocks at the inlet.

Otherwise, how would the rider know to stop and turn around??
