Blizzard Update

Back on line for a few minutes- borrowing my son’s computer and Internet connection!  We are fortunate to have electric service at our home (most of our neighbors do not)- but lost our Comcast service (cable, phone, and Internet).

We were able to walk and drive around the island today- amazing sights.  Electric wires are covered with ice, and many are sagging over the streets- or on the ground.  Snow plows did their best to stay ahead of the snow- but many streets are impossible to navigate without 4 wheel drive.  Homes facing north look like they were sprayed with snow- especially those along the inlet in Avalon and on Stone Harbor Blvd!

Crews from the elecrtic company were lined up along Stone Harbor Blvd to make repairs.  Also saw a crew over the 21st Street bridge.  Property owners are concerned about frozen pipes if their heat stays off too long.  Hopefully, we will have good news over the next few days.

On the positive side, the town looks beautiful covered with snow!  After a LONG day and night trapped in the house (with on and off power and no cable), it was great to go outside today in the bright sunshine.   I took pictures, but can’t post then until my computer at work is functioning (aka- electric service back on at the office).

In the meantime, I am able to “Tweet”- and will continue to post updates on:  www.twitter.com/AnnDelaneyBeach

Blizzard- Saturday 6am

Power was out for almost 2 hours early this morning- thankfully, back on now (with occasional flickers).  Snow plows running all night.  High winds blowing snow sideways.  Looks incredible outside- glad to be indoors with working heat!

Calm B4 Storm

oceanFebTemperatures in the mid-40’s, and calm south east winds bringing moisture and a fresh, salt air smell to the coast.

Hard to imagine this changing to blizzard like conditions over the next few hours!

Checking the NOAA web site for updates:  http://www.erh.noaa.gov/phi/

Click on the storm total snow forecast to view the colorful PA / NJ/ DE map.  Cape May County is expecting 21+ inches.

Wildlife on the Beach

It’s a Beach Day…

SealFebFor a seal!

I get excited when I find sea glass on my beach walk.  Imagine my reaction when I saw this little guy?

sealFebThe Stone Harbor police dispatcher said she knew about the seal, and had talked with someone from the Brigantine Marine Mammal Stranding Center.  Apparently, the seal is just sunning himself by the dunes- and the pink marking on his head indicates he was found doing the same thing last week in Wildwood Crest!   A real beach bum  😉

Rental Inspections

The Boroughs of Avalon and Stone Harbor require annual inspections for all rental properties.  The Department of Fire Prevention checks for safety issues and code violations.

All rental properties must have smoke detectors (within 10′ of each bedroom, and at least one on each floor), GFI outlets within 6′ of a sink, and carbon monoxide detectors in homes with gas /oil, a fireplace, or an attached garage.  A commercial grade fire extinguisher (serviced annually) located in the kitchen.  And no propane tanks (for gas grills) on decks or within 5′ of exterior walls.

The construction office in each town has a similar inspection for the transfer (sale) of all properties, too.

For more information, call 609-368-5102 ext 105 in Stone Harbor; or 609-967-4220 in Avalon.
