 I am a big fan of Girl Scout Cookies- the peanut butter sandwiches are my favorite. But wait…peanut butter is now a risky food product. The Girl Scouts try to stay current with the times- their cookies are trans-fat free, the packaging is 100% recycled paperboard; and this year the girls have to assure us that the cookies are salmonella free!Â
The concern might effect sales (although I still bought a box). And there’s always Thin Mints!
I appreciate the enthusiasm of this Sea Isle City resident as he counts down the days to Memorial Day Weekend!Â

 Yesterday’s bright sun created a line through my picture- but it was such a nice view that I wanted to post it anyway. A spring like day…replaced with more normal winter weather today. Oh well- we know better days are ahead 🙂
 Sure, the sun is out…but with typical January temperatures and wind chills. Brrrr! The surfers don’t seem to mind the cold!Â

 January 20, 1961– the Inauguration of John F. Kennedy. My mother watched this historic event with me - in the maternity ward of the hospital.  I was 2 days old. Our 44th president would be born later that same year.
January 20, 2009- the Inauguration of Barack Obama- another historic event.  This time, one that I will remember. It’s a proud day for our country.

Waking up to a coating of snow was a nice distraction.
 Interesting to see the various footprints in the snow and try to guess the critter.
 The most unusual? Human footprints. There were a few more than expected this morning, but it is a 3 day weekend!Â
Gosh, a heat wave. When I saw 35 degrees on the thermometer this morning, I decided it was time to get back on the beach!
 It was cold and damp! But still a pretty view.
 Salt water ice on the outfall pipes.  Signs of the more dreaded “frozen pipes” were in front of a nearby beach block house – the police and public works department were already on site to shut off the water to prevent further damage.
 At 7:40 am, the temperature inside my house was a frugal 63.5 degrees; outside was a painful 10.2 degrees.
After a few days of below freezing temperatures, even salt water will freeze.Â

 More good news- the Borough of Avalon has received funding commitments for beach replenishment in the north end of Avalon. The project will be out for bid in February, with a completion date later this spring. Sand will be trucked in (rather than dredged) and spread on the beaches between 9th and 18th Streets.
 The beach at 9th Street adjacent to the 8th Street jetty- not very crowded this time of year…especially at 25 degrees (wind chill 14 degrees) and snow flurries. Think summer!
I read that the Borough of Stone Harbor reached an agreement with the State of New Jersey regarding funding for the planned beach replenishment for 98th to 111th Streets. No start date yet for the project.Â
At high tide- there is very little beach in this area (see photo from this morning)-Â new sand will be appreciated!
With the approaching cold temperatures, I may be forced to modify my walks…
