  • Brendan Borek Events

    http://www.brendansfund.org/

I am proud to support Brendan’s Fund.  This local organization provides financial and emotional assistance to Cape May County families coping with pediatric cancer.  The Surf Memorial is next Saturday- and a full week’s worth of events starting tonight (see web site or posters in local businesses for more details).

Join in…it’s an expectionally worthy cause.

  • Back Bays

marsh.jpg  Even if you don’t live on the bay- there are opportunities to enjoy the calm (and usually warmer) back bay waterways.  Avalon and Stone Harbor have several public docks. The easiest for parking:  Avalon Bay Park with a fishing/crabbing dock on 53rd Street, and swimming dock/ kayak launch area on 57th Street.  Other docks: 8th Street, over the 21st and 25th Street bridges, 23rd Street, 81st Street, 83rd Street, and 113th Street.

Tide schedule available on Avalon Anchorage Marina’s web site: http://www.avalonanchorage.com/

  • Not a Beach Day 🙁

raindowntown.jpg  I didn’t believe the weather forecast (I prefer to live in denial) – and made plans for some time on the beach after work this afternoon.  The heavy rain caused minor flooding along Dune Drive, and our visitors to run for cover!  Messy afternoon- but the sky is looking brighter.

  • Avalon- North End Beach Update

beach-2.jpg  Incredible- this is the view from 11th Street looking north toward the jetty.  The north end beach replenishment was completed just before the 4th of July.  The Borough of Avalon officials deserve high praise for expediting this project.

  • Happy 4th!

4thjuly.jpg  The weather was a bit unsettled and cool this morning, but it turned into a beautiful beach day.  The Stone Harbor fireworks started promptly at 9pm with light rain…and a soaking rain by the time we were walking home!

Fireworks again tomorrow night on the 30th Street beach in Avalon.  Enjoy the holiday weekend 🙂

  • Life is Good…

briancrede.jpg   A great weekend…perfect beach days and cool nights.

The Avalon Islandman Triathlon was held Sunday – 334 men and women (ranging in age from 13 to 67!) participated in the event.  An additional 198 children (ages 7 through 14) competed in the Kid’s Triathlon.  The ocean was cold and rough…but the racers enjoyed the challenge.

    See race results: http://www.lin-mark.com/

The Avalon Beach Patrol, Borough of Avalon employees, Avalon Fire and Rescue, and local residents generously gave their time (over 200 volunteers in all).  Funds raised will be donated to local organizations.

  • Avalon Beach Fill

The dredge is here and work is scheduled to start today.

  • Avalon Beach Replenishment

See article in the Cape May County Herald regarding the emergency beach fill agreement for Avalon’s north end. The project could start as early as next week.

  • Come On Down!

lifeguards.jpg  Escape the heat this weekend, and enjoy the cool sea breeze at the shore!  Today was my 1st full “beach day”, including a long walk to the Windrift for lunch on the upper deck.  Perfect…
