  • Easter Weekend

Nice long beach walk this morning. Now in work and watching the activity across the street at Avalon Coffee.  The outside chairs are well located to catch the morning sun!

    Enjoy the weekend.

  • Warmer Weekend

    Today…not so much 😉

    April

  • Spring Sea Breeze

We all know the “Cooler by a Mile” slogan applies in the spring…right?  And a 70 degree weather forecast in April is likely for WEST of island bridges?

For my early morning walks, I often see visitors in shorts and tee shirts…while I’m wearing a fleece jacket and a hat!

We will appreciate the sea breeze soon enough.  In the meantime, bring a few extra layers for your time at the beach 🙂

  • $21.00

For $21 per person, our island beaches are groomed daily, trash and recycling is picked up, and well trained lifeguards keep us safe. Plus, we are welcome to enjoy Avalon and Stone Harbor beaches with the same tag. A bargain.

The majority of my beach time is during non-tag hours: early morning and evening walks.  And, as residents, we pay our fair share in property taxes.  Yet, I understand the purpose of the revenue, and purchase a handful of tags each season for family and guests.

Excited to pin these on my beach bag for summer 2014!

  • Stone Harbor Spring Walks

Walk the beach…admire the Stone Harbor Garden Club’s mini-park (122nd and Second Avenue)…and explore the paths down at the Point (the snowy owl is rumored to still be in residence).

  • Open!

MarchFlowersSpring = daffodils, and “Open” signs on seasonal businesses.

For example: Hoy’s 5 & 10, The Windrift, Jay’s on Third, Marabella’s, Avalon Coffee, and The Concord- all joining the year round establishments and gearing up for a busy summer.  P.S. the Beach Tag booths (Avalon 30th Street; Stone Harbor 95th Street) now open weekends, too!

Many more will be opening as of Easter week, then Mother’s Day weekend, and of course Memorial Day weekend.

Glad to see activity around town again!

  • April will be better 🙂

The snow is melting…and local businesses are starting to re-open for the season.

    Thursday

  • Quick Walk

Quiet afternoon in work, so time for quick walk to check out the snow flurries…and the beach.

Summary: windy, cold, and yes, snowy (visible in the lower picture- against the pine trees).   Nice views, though 😉

P.S. Glad I walked after lunch. It’s 3:45pm and snowing like crazy!
