  • On Their Way!

    We expect a steady flow of visitors and owners onto the island starting tonight, and throughout the holiday weekend.

    Best advice?  Park your car and opt for another mode of transportation. 

    Unfortunately for me, kayaking to work is not realistic 😉

  • Jersey Shore in Coastal Living Magazine

    Nice feature piece in the July/August edition of Coastal Living Magazine about the Jersey shore- specifically Cape May, Avalon, and Ocean City.

    One critique of the Avalon section- not sure why the author would plug a hot dog stand on the beach at 59th Street in Sea Isle City when writing about the beaches in Avalon? Just don’t see the Avalon visitors crossing the bridge for a lunch time snack  😉

    Otherwise, fun to see our area receive positive press.  We all know that the New Jersey reality shows are anything but real…glad Coastal Living took the time to share that with the outside world, too.

  • Saturday Morning

    My view this morning as I walked the beach…beautiful!

    Downtown shopping areas are busy. We will see even more visitors arrive on the island by mid-afternoon to begin their vacation at the shore.  Happy to see the return of long time tenants week after week- it’s a privilege to be part of their treasured family vacation.

  • Living as a Tourist

    Our 2 week family visit is coming to an end  🙁

    Somehow, we have managed to squeeze a summer’s worth of activities into our limited time together.

    Plenty of beach days, boogie boarding, ocean AND bay kayaking, the playground, bike rides, the zoo, the bird sanctuary, and a few hours on Wildwood boardwalk for the rides at Morey’s Pier (and the required boardwalk food!)

    P.S. Added a last day activity- the 2 Morey’s water parks.  Now, I am officially exhausted!

  • Busy Saturday

    Pretty morning on the beach.  I was joined by runners, walkers, surfers, and paddle boarders…all enjoying the peaceful setting.

    Busy on the island this weekend.  My “commute” to work was a few minutes longer ;) 

     Summer is definitely here.  Enjoy!

  • And, That’s a Wrap

    The Stone Harbor beach fill project is complete. As of this morning, the dredging company was actively removing the metal pipes and equipment from the beach (this may take a few days).

    The local public works department will smooth out the dune paths, and install new snow fencing along the entire length of the beach.

    Looks good!

  • Summer Begins

    Officially, summer starts on Tuesday, June 21st.  Yet, at the shore, we know it’s more about the end of the school year.

    Groups of young people wandering around town this week = senior week  (I always worry where they are renting!)  And more families on the beach. 

    The owners of 2 popular local businesses are teachers – Mack’s Pizza in Stone Harbor, and Kohler’s Bakery in Avalon.  Both will open full time as of this weekend, too.

  • Family Time

    If you ever need a reminder of how fortunate we are to live near the ocean…take a child to the beach and watch their excitement.

    They will patiently wait for just the right wave.  They respect and listen to the lifeguards. Digging a hole by the water’s edge is never boring.  And, rolling in the soft sand after swimming is the best way to warm up!

    Some cloud cover, but enough sun and mild temperatures to make it a beach day :) 

    The island is busy- family vacations are starting as the school year ends.  From this point forward, each Saturday will be busy with rental check-in’s.

  • Beachfill Pictures and Video

    The 24/7 project continues with rebuilding the dunes and pumping sand on the Stone Harbor beaches.  Busy day yesterday in front of the 95th Street lifeguard station!
