  • Kayaking in March?

MarchkayakingYep.  Time to launch the boat.  A few weeks ago we were shoveling snow!

docksThe secret to early and late season kayaking is to limit contact with the water (ha, ha).  It’s COLD!  Therefore, I stay close to the docks just in case.

bridgeAnd sometimes, close to a bridge  🙂

owlsNo birdwatching today- other than plastic owls on the pilings to scare off (?) other birds.   A bit freaky.

MarchbayA beautiful day to hang out on the bay for an hour or so.  Life is good!

  • Pancakes, Beer, a Walk on the Beach

Weekend at the shore:  Uncle Bill’s Pancake House in Stone Harbor re-opened this morning for the season (Avalon stays open year round); for dinner and drinks, both the Concord Cafe and Windrift in Avalon will unlock their doors after a long winter’s nap.

And of course, you MUST take advantage of this incredible weather and extra hour of day light with a walk on the beach  🙂

  • Happy Spring!

SpringThe spring bulbs are popping up all over our small yard.   And the warm weather is expected to last through the official first day of spring on Saturday.

We are looking forward to a busy (finally) weekend at the shore!

  • Beach Break

boardwalkGeneral office computer maintenance and virus scans today created a few hours of downtime.  Fortunately, I planned ahead with proper attire and footwear  😉

AvalonpierOne of the many perks of living and working at the shore!  It was a perfect afternoon break.

dunesWalking north on the beach in Avalon, I could not continue beyond 22nd Street.  Borough workers were on site making emergency dune repairs until the major beach fill project in May.

  • March Fog

MarchfogAt the Jersey Shore, “spring” arrives wrapped in fog.  As you drive in the boulevard, the thick moist air often obstructs the view of the bridge.

Thankfully, it’s good for the skin…at least that’s what I believe when I return from my walk soaking wet!  Happy Spring  🙂

  • Saturday 5pm

sunsetMarchThe sun finally appeared late this afternoon through the clouds over the bay.  “Salty and damp” air from a strong sea breeze.   A better ending to a day of wild weather.

  • Saturday Afternoon 1pm

dunedriveWell…the weather report was right.  Basically, an ugly day at the shore!

Hard to see in the picture, but the wind is pushing the rain sideways down Dune Drive.  Avalon Coffee made a good effort for the morning.  The lights in Hoy’s are bright against the dark sky.  And the real estate offices are open- optimistic that winter weary folks will call or e-mail to make summer plans.    ann@anndelaney.com   if I can be of assistance.

  • It’s March

floodingNot too bad right now- high winds and rain last night, and some minor flooding this morning at high tide in the usual spots.

The sky is clearing  now.  The weekend weather might be better than expected.

P.S.  Just checked radar.  More heavy rain on the way   🙁

  • Last day of sun?

sunMarchAnother mild day and no rain- yet.

FYI:   Marabella’s Restaurant in Stone Harbor will be open this weekend.  Glad to have another dining option!

  • March Weather

jettyTypical March weather will return to the shore by the end of the week  :(

VitaminDIn the meantime, I’m determined to get my fair share of vitamin D and fresh salt air!
