Typical March weather will return to the shore by the end of the week :(  Â

Spotted this “shell flag” in a front yard on First Avenue in Avalon.Â
It looks too colorful to be left over from last summer.  A recent weekend project in preparation for the season??
I’m realistic- this is NOT typical March weather. But we all deserve an early “Spring break” after February!
This morning, I shared the beach with 5 walkers, 1 jogger, 2 dogs, 1 bicyclist (riding the hard sand), and 3 Borough workers building a new ramp to the beach. That’s a huge crowd for a Monday in March! Enjoy the day 🙂
A brilliant blue sky, a cool blue ocean, and a light blue piece of sea glass. All part of my walk this morning.
Also noticed: I had to stop while crossing the street toward the beach. 2 bicyclists riding south and a jogger heading north. Practically a traffic jam!
1) Avalon Coffee is back open (weekends)- across from my office on 29th and Dune Drive. There are tables and chairs outside for soaking  up the sun!
2) An increase in rental bookings for summer 2010.  It’s the ideal time to plan your seashore vacation.Â
3) The anticipation of “opening soon” signs on local restaurants and shops. St. Patrick’s Day weekend and Easter week are the next big target dates. Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner…
We’ve lived in many different homes over the years- a mix of old and new…and all within a few miles of the others. While I still love our current “beach house” built just 5 years ago, I also admire so many other island homes. I tend to select a new favorite every few months!
My latest infatuation?  A charming home under construction on 92nd Street.  The architecture reminds me of the story book cottages in Carmel, CA. Interesting exterior trim detail, and a modest sized structure- well suited for the lot and neighborhood.
Grateful for the mild temperatures to encourage my walks…and house stalking  🙂
Mother Nature left her mark on the beach. Higher than average tides and a turbulent ocean carved interesting designs into the sand.

Clearing skies this morning…leading the way for mild weekend weather! See you on the beach 🙂

A reminder to Avalon and Stone Harbor property owners: there are many cable and phone wires down from the February ice/snow storm. Comcast and Verizon may be waiting to hear from the home owner before making the repairs.
