  • Back to Work

    ParisWonderful vacation in France!

I will post more details after I catch up on email and business paperwork.

FYI- The annual Seafood Festival at 30th Street in Avalon- bring an umbrella for the morning.  Better weather forecasted for later today and tomorrow.

  • Surf Contest

Nice crowd forming prior to the start of the Nuns’ Beach surf contest this morning.  Love watching the little ones prepare.

The ocean was choppy when I walked before work- hopefully the waves improved for the event!

  • Better than Sea World!

The conditions were finally just right for ocean kayaking before work:  calm wind, calm waves, and low tide.

I’ve taken a few painful spills over the years, so I am very cautious!

While paddling parallel with the beach, I saw dolphins way out in “the deep end”- too far for me to venture.  Yet, because it was so quiet, I could hear their tails slapping against the water.  Very cool!

I continued with my laps, and then watched as the dolphins headed my way. What an amazing experience – thrilling and intimidating at the same time!  The dolphins are curious enough to swim next to and under the kayak (with the water so clear I could see one eye to eye!)  They stayed near me for a several minutes before continuing their journey.  What a wonderful way to start my day.

P.S. I tanked riding a wave back into shore…but it was SO worth it 😉

  • Cedar Island Swim, Avalon

    Well, that was fun…and challenging!

I was a kayak volunteer for this morning’s Cedar Island Swim- a Tim Kerr Charities event.  It’s a 5K swim starting at the Avalon Yacht Club, south along the main channel to the Avalon Anchorage Marina (end of 21st Street), east along Sunset Drive and 20th Street, north along Ocean Drive, and then back west along 7th Street with the finish at the Yacht Club.

The NE winds were blowing- gusts up to 20- 25 mph.  Made for some big “waves” in the bay, and major resistance when heading north along the Ocean Drive segment.  Impressive endurance by the swimmers!

Next week I’m back INSIDE the Avalon Community Hall as a registration volunteer for the TK Race 😉

  • Bay Views- Last Night

Thanks to kind neighbors, we had a front row view of the boat parade.  From their dock, we were able to watch a beautiful sunset while the decorated boats passed by.  Most water front homes were in the spirit with lights and decorations celebrating the Stone Harbor Centennial.

Very clever themes… and big cheers at the end for the Stone Harbor lifeguards in their row boats!  Fun night 🙂
