This is my “Out of the Office” message for next week.
Heading to a beach in South Carolina for some R & R before the busy season begins here 😎
We are renting a condo, which provides the opportunity to better understand the perspective of a “tenant”.
I will be back at my desk in one week…and will post a few pictures on Twitter in the meantime.
Spring Forward = the sun is finally up by the time I’m heading home from my morning beach walk!
For a few weeks, we were spoiled with a break from winter weather…but the cold has returned!
The sunrise sky provides an incentive to bundle up and walk the beach before work 🙂
Cold mornings mean it’s time to change up my daily beach walk routine.
1) Sneakers are not warm enough for me in the winter. Â I wear sturdy hikers for warmth and stability.
2) Our wonderful summer “breeze” changes to a chilly winter “wind”; most often from the northwest. Â Walking near the dunes provides some protection from the gusts.
3) Beaches are not groomed in the off season, allowing the soft sand to pack down. Â Plus, the moisture in the sand freezes, creating a firmer surface for walking.
4) Â Hat, gloves, and a winter coat are necessities. Â I also swear by wool socks and ski pants. Â Occasionally I leave the house thinking I am over dressed for the walk…until I reach the path!

I will be giving away sand dollars and sea glass to customers who stop by our Avalon office during Festive Friday to say hello.

On Friday evening, our Stone Harbor office will be open for Hospitality Night. Pop in to warm up, and enjoy some wine and snacks 🙂

It was a perfect morning for the annual TK Charities Cedar Island 5K Swim.
Such a fun event!
Added bonus as a volunteer: Â an up close perspective of the massive boats and new homes along the bay. Wow!

Sunday, August 26th is the annual Cedar Island 5K Swim.
The race starts at 8:27am at the Avalon Yacht Club (7th Street and the bay).
Swimmers head south along the main channel before turning east along the 20th Street waterway, and then north along Ocean Drive and back to the Yacht Club.
Cheer for the swimmers along the way. Â I will be in my red kayak as a volunteer (trying to keep up with the swimmers!)
On the following Sunday, September 2nd, the 30th annual Tim Kerr 7 Mile Island Run - 5K Run/Walk  takes place at 8:30am (Avalon Community Hall, 30th and the beach).

Out of the office message: Â Friday May 4th to Friday May 11th. Â Back in the office on Saturday May 12th.
A few years ago, my sisters and I vacationed together to celebrate the “baby’s” 50th birthday.
Although we had traveled as a group with our families, this was the first time since our teen years with just the 4 of us under one roof.
Thankfully, we managed to share bedrooms and bathrooms without any major incidents 😉
Rather than wait until next year for another milestone birthday, we decided to celebrate the eldest turning 59.
And of course we will be relaxing on a beach 😎
Ages: 53, 56, 57, and 58… turning 59.
Yes, our parents had their hands full!
On this morning’s episode…
I watched the precision high dive of an osprey into the ocean. The hawk surfaced with a surprisingly large fish -especially considering the shallow water depth.
The fish was heavier than a normal catch, causing the osprey to land on the beach several times for a better grip.
After a few minutes of attempted take off and forced landings, the osprey gave up and left the fish behind. Â The hawk quickly returned over the ocean in search of “lighter fare” for breakfast!
So, if you find a random dead fish in your yard, it’s not from some epic flood.
Likely leftovers from an overzealous osprey 🙂
