  • Back on the Beach

Less wind and more sun…yet still VERY cold.  On the plus side?  The moisture in the sand freezes in the winter- turning the soft sand by the dunes (my wind break!) into a more stable walking surface.

treeBased on TV ads and music on the radio…it’s almost Christmas.

    See you then!

  • Dune Grass Planting

I’ve written about my personal experience with dune grass planting as a child growing up on the island.  Needless to say, our finished product looked a bit different than the symmetrical rows pictured!

The dune grass planting is the final phase of our recent beach/dune restoration project.

  • To The Beach!

Hoping for a clear view of the NASA rocket launch tonight.  Follow  @NASA_Wallops  on Twitter for updates.  I will be live tweeting, too @anndelaneybeach

Launch window:  7:30pm to 9:30pm.  Find an area with minimal artificial light (like the beach!) and look south.

P.S.  We were joined by quite a few others at Stone Harbor Point- ideal location for an unobstructed view.   Launch was at 8:15pm, and we watched the rocket  appear from across the inlet, veer over the ocean for several minutes…before fading away.  Cool!

  • Monday Views

Roaring wind gusts, heavy rain, and then shades of soft pink and blue as the sky cleared.  Busy weather morning!

  • Beach Parking

The fishermen are out in full force at Stone Harbor Point…waiting for the striped bass to arrive.

A nice distraction this morning- dolphins feeding just past the wave break. One of the fisherman said dolphins will scare away the stripers, but he was enjoying the rare November sight.

  • “Sand” Bucket List

I am grateful to live near the water; and the ability to walk along the beach every day…year round.  A chilly morning feels much warmer with the sun reflecting off the ocean, and the dunes buffering the wind.

And, I am grateful for the opportunity to travel (usually to other beautiful beach locations).  Each trip expands our view of the world, and encourages us to add more destinations to the “list”.

    Yet…
