  • “What do you do all winter?”

I’ve heard the question my entire life!

When I was a child, the answer was: “We go to school.”  And I often had to clarify that we had an actual school- not classrooms on the beach!

In my teen years, the response was: “We go to school and work.”  Yes, there were year round businesses, and my sisters and I worked weekends  at a local restaurant.

As an adult, I’ve noticed the occasional look of envy OR pity from the person asking the question. Our very normal life includes work, grandchildren, and travel…and daily beach walks 😎

I was thinking about our unique lifestyle this morning as I placed yet another sand dollar on the porch table.  The rinsed versions and sea glass end up on display upstairs!

  • Cape May, NJ

Cape May is popular destination for many Avalon and Stone Harbor visitors.

I previewed this custom home recently, and thought it could be a wonderful option for a beach house buyer who needs more space than typically offered in similar priced properties along Seven Mile Beach.

Total of 5200 square feet over 4 levels.

6 bedrooms, 6.5 baths, elevator, and ocean views!

Quiet residential neighborhood close to the beach.

    $2,645,000 fully furnished.

Buyer will benefit from rental income for reserved summer weeks (approximately $100,000).

  • January Beach Days

My late Sunday afternoon beach walk views.

It looked like a summer day…well, except for the lack of people, and the Jeep on the sand!

  • Art at Stone Harbor Point

In the late fall, unknown artists created a unique beach sculpture at Stone Harbor Point.  It was likely a group effort with contributions of painted shells and other beach treasures.

Storms over the holidays destroyed their work, but as of a few days ago, repairs are underway!

  • Keeping Warm on Walks

We are very fortunate to enjoy 6 months of really nice weather.  The other 6 months are occasionally challenging for my regular beach walks.

Even if temperatures are not terrible, the wind will let you know it’s winter!

Some days, I choose to “get it over with” and walk into the wind…knowing the perks once I turn around.

Or, like this morning, I count on the dunes to provide some wind break!
