The final equipment removal from the Stone Harbor beach fill continues to fascinate.
Yesterday, the survey tripod was driven to the water’s edge, lifted by a crane, and then placed on a barge. Off to the next beach fill project!

Avalon and Stone Harbor, NJ sale statistics for the past 30 days:
29 properties SOLD, with an overall median selling price of $990,000.Â
8 condo/townhouse units sold ranging from $462,000 for a row house style unit on 14th Street in Avalon, to $1,215,000 for a bay front townhouse.
19 single family homes sold ranging from $490,000 for a small cottage on an undersized lot, to $3,050,000 for a custom home on the bay in Stone Harbor. The median selling price for single family homes: $1,470,000.
In addition, one commercial space sold for $65,000; and a vacant lot in the southend of Avalon sold for $1,300,000. 21 sales for Avalon; 8 sales for Stone Harbor.
Currently, there are 33 properties SALE PENDING with settlement scheduled for the near future.

The Stone Harbor beach fill project is complete. As of this morning, the dredging company was actively removing the metal pipes and equipment from the beach (this may take a few days).
The local public works department will smooth out the dune paths, and install new snow fencing along the entire length of the beach.

The 24/7 project continues with rebuilding the dunes and pumping sand on the Stone Harbor beaches. Busy day yesterday in front of the 95th Street lifeguard station!

The beach fill project continues north.  As of this morning, the beach paths at 97th Street and several blocks south are closed.  The crews block off additional streets early so they don’t have to move anyone off the beach mid-day.Â
Guessing that the beach fill activity along the Stone Harbor coast has disrupted the normal dolphin activity. Happy to report that I saw at least 10 this morning close to the shore!Â

So peaceful on the beach this morning- calm ocean, gentle breeze, and comfortable temperatures.
The activity on the Stone Harbor beach continues. As of today, beach access is closed between 102nd and 105th Street. All beaches north and south of those streets are open with lifeguards at designated locations.

The large metal pipe used to pump new sand on to the beaches will remain in place near the dune line until the end of June.
A question I have answered numerous times (twice this week in fact). Â
A look of confusion is common. “Isn’t it (pick an adjective) isolating, dreary, quiet, creepy, boring in the winter?”Â
Then to the follow up question: “Where are you from originally?” When I answer “Avalon”, it’s certainly not what they are expecting. How can somebody be from the shore??Â
This is when I feel obligated to mention that we love to travel (to clarify that I can drive over the bridge!) and feel so fortunate to live by the beach.

The Stone Harbor beach fill project brings out the 6 year old boy in all of us:Â “Wow…look at that!”
Beach paths are currently closed between 102nd through 111th Street (the parking area and vehicle access path needed at 111th Street).Â
Beaches on either side are open and guarded. The entire project will be complete by the end of the month.
