Summer Weekend

A bit overcast this morning for our busy change-over day.  How can you tell it’s a rental change over day?  Every other car has bikes attached to the back and a kayak on top 😉

Villa Maria- Nuns’ Beach

The stately Villa Maria by the Sea retreat house celebrates its Diamond Jubilee Year in 2012.

As a special thank you to the community, the Sisters are opening their summer home to the public on Saturday July 21st from 11am to 1pm, and again on Wednesday, August 22nd.

Tour the huge beach front building and manicured grounds, and catch up with the wonderful women in residence.

Oh, and don’t go with empty pockets.  You will be “encouraged” to purchase Nuns’ Beach wear, or make a kind donation 😉

Solitude in July

A major perk of our low key island: even in July, you can still find quiet sections along the water.   This was my view yesterday…a great back drop while reading a book.

Aren’t They Baby Clams??

I asked a knowledgeable Twitter friend to provide more information about the mini clams abundant this summer along the water’s edge. She responded the same day with a helpful post on her blog:  Beach Chair Scientist

Health Care Tax?

The facts:

Effective January 1, 2013, net investment income for high-income households (over $200,000 individuals/$250,000 married couples) will be subject to the 3.8% Medicare Tax (part of the health care bill).  Capital gains are included in the definition of net investment income, so this additional tax could apply to the sale of real property.

Primary homes will continue to benefit from the first $250,000/$500,000 exclusion before the tax applies.  Second home sales do not have this exclusion, so the 3.8% tax would apply to “the portion of the gain realized on the sale of a second home or investment property that with bring the filer’s AGI (adjusted gross income) over the $200,000/$250,000 limit”.

Sunday Sights

That’s better!

More comfortable temperatures and a nice breeze to start off Sunday.

Enjoy the beach day 🙂

Hot Enough??

This was my view yesterday…what a perfect beach day 🙂

Back to work today.  The excessive heat will be especially rough on our tenants checking out this morning, and those arriving later this afternoon (and of course the hard working cleaning crews in between!)

Have a good weekend.

P.S. Our on-line rental system is down.  If you have any questions regarding a rental property, please call 609-967-7950.  We hope to be back up soon.

Summer Holiday

Did you enjoy the 4th?

The weather cooperated with the crowds.  An early west wind turned to a more comfortable sea breeze just as I was ready to start my beach day 🙂

In Stone Harbor, the life guards decorated their stands and boats, and organized activities for the kids.

We watched the fireworks from 80th Street- it was like an IMAX event: Avalon’s first to our left; Stone Harbor’s overhead; and then North Wildwood’s as we walked home.  Nice!

Beach Clean Up

Letter from  Leslie Weinberg, representative from United by Blue:

On Saturday, July 14, the ocean-friendly brand of apparel, United By Blue, and its retail partner, Global Pursuit (262 96th Street), are hosting a beach cleanup in Stone Harbor, NJ  from 10 am to 1 pm.

We are currently trying to mobilize as many volunteers as possible and I was just wondering if you would be willing to promote our cleanup on your beach blog.

Volunteers just need to show up with helping hands, we provide them with gloves, bags, breakfast, water, sunscreen and even a few games and giveaways.

United By Blue is an ocean-friendly brand of apparel that removes a pound of trash from oceans and waterways for every product sold. Since our creation in May 2010, we’ve hosted over 80 cleanups in 18 states and picked up over 130,000 pounds of trash from oceans and waterways.

Volunteers can sign up for the cleanup by visiting  http://www.unitedbyblue.com/cleanup/stoneharbor   They can direct questions to cleanup@unitedbyblue.com or 215-642-0693.
