This is NOT my favorite week. As a “self employed” person, I face the double whammy of taxes due on our 2011 return, as well as 1st quarter estimated payments. Ouch!
Yet, I always vow not to complain. If I am paying taxes…it’s because I am making a good living. And that in turn allows me to live by the beach.
So I will write my checks, and then walk down to the ocean and admire the view 🙂

A busy holiday weekend + windy conditions = a feast for the local seagulls!
Unfortunately, there is trash blowing around our otherwise pristine streets today. Before leaving town, homeowners placed their trash and recycling containers by the curb for pick up; unaware that the high winds would send the cans…and the contents… rolling down the street.
There is a solution: The Borough of Avalon has a trash and recycling center open every day from 7am to 3pm at 15th Street and Dune Drive (the entrance to the Public Works yard).Â

This was my view yesterday morning. Perfect weather for the Easter sunrise service on 30th Street in Avalon.
And THIS was my view later in the day:  a baby seal hanging out on the beach in the south end of Stone Harbor.  He (or she) appeared healthy- just getting some sun and a nap!Â
The police were on hand to keep onlookers at a safe distance. The officer mentioned that this is the first seal he has seen all winter (it’s not unusual for seals to make a pit stop on our beach).

The island is busy! Enjoy the weekend.
This statement will make other sales people cringe: “Yes, I do take time off from work”.
And, I will even confess to an occasional vacation 🙂
Because I have always lived/worked in a tourist area, working on weekends is a must. Therefore, I take 2 days off during the week (Wednesday and Friday to be specific).Â
Yet, we are in a 24/7 world- with the technology to support that lifestyle. I am likely to be posting a beach or bay picture to Twitter…and then replying to a work e-mail immediately after.
I sincerely believe I can “sell” the island because I actively enjoy the benefits. Â

I expect more company this week and next while walking on the beach. Currently, the birds and an occasional dolphin don’t seem too disturbed as I sing along with my iPod…will have to tone it down when people return 😉

…could a morning commute be interrupted by an osprey. I stopped my car and waited. And after a few minutes, he took off carrying a large fish!Â
