A shift in wind direction this morning. Â
Two clues of a south east breeze: you can hear the waves breaking in the ocean several blocks away; and the moisture level in the air increases.
The slightly warmer temperatures are off set by the dampness. Thankfully, the sun has arrived to make for a beautiful January day! Enjoy the weekend.

I am taking the liberty of requesting the advice of a connaisseur of South end beach in Stone harbour
we are about to rent ahouse on 113th street with our three daughters and grandchildren; is the beach nice at that end; the real estate agent thinks we might find it too narrow; our grand children like to go in water and booby board and adults like to lay under the sun and take walks on the beach
thnaks for your advice should you care to answer me and by the way your pictures are just stunning since we only the ocean in summer months
Happy to help. The beach at 113th Street is fine- last year there was some erosion a few blocks south, so the beach was smaller at high tide, but still very functional considering the minimal crowds in that section. The section the real estate agent may be thinking of is closer to 122nd Street- last summer it was narrow at high tide…but hopefully some of that sand will return for 2011!
If I recall, the lifeguard is situated near 114th Street- and boogie boards are permitted. Heading north, “Nun’s Beach” between 111th and 112th Street is also guarded- but boogie boards are not permitted.
