    Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  

     Belfast, Northern Ireland–  my husband was disappointed - Delaney’s restaurant didn’t sell logo t-shirts. The owner said that’s “an American thing”!

    On my father’s side: my grandmother was born in County Clare in the Republic of Ireland, and my grandfather grew up near Ballymena and the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland.  A real mixed marriage!

    They met and married in Philadelphia, and vacationed in Stone Harbor each summer while raising 6 children.  In the 1950s, my grandparents built a year round home in Avalon.  A family business brought the sons and daughters (some with spouses and young children) from Philadelphia to Avalon shortly thereafter.

    After visiting the beautiful windswept coast of Northern Ireland, I can totally understand my grandfather’s love of the shore.  Sand in our shoes… and salt air in our lungs 😉

  • Opening Soon…

    A welcome “sign of the season”!

    Many shops and restaurants are ready for summer 2015, and opening for long weekends.

    Happy to see the island return to life 🙂

    I had to drop off documents to another real estate office, go to the bank, and check a house.  I just “happened” to have walking shoes in my car…allowing for a quick detour to the beach 😉

  • Snow and Ice

    Amazing sights yesterday of the snow and ice surrounding the island.

    The highlights: seeing the ice in the waves off of the 8th Street jetty, the huge chunks of ice along the ocean’s edge, and the fresh snow on the beach paths.

    A mild 27 degrees right now, with bright, warm sunshine 🙂

    Beautiful day in Avalon, NJ.  A “just enough” snow storm, AND temperatures edging  above 20 degrees (without the crazy wind).

  • Avalon NJ Beach Update

    I talked with a Borough of Avalon official regarding on going and proposed beach projects.

    1) Beach paths in the southend of Avalon are being elevated to similar levels as the surrounding dunes.  There were concerns during Sandy that the paths could become a route for the ocean to flow into the street (thankfully, it didn’t happen).

    2) Avalon officals are working on securing a dredge for a beach fill project for the north end of the island- hopefully coordinating with Ocean City to move the equipment after their project is completed.  The timing is up in the air, yet an early summer time frame is likely.  If scheduled, the Borough will maintain safe beach access on as many streets as possible during the beach fill.

  • Transfer and Rental Inspections

    Both Avalon and Stone Harbor require fire safety inspections for every rental property, and prior to the transfer of ownership.

    Common causes for inspection failure:

    smokeDetec1) extension cords

    2) smoke or carbon monoxide detectors more that 10 years old (hardwired units MUST be replaced with new hardwired units)

    3) non-functioning GFI receptacles within 6′ of sinks

    4) propane gas grill on the deck

    Better to trouble shoot prior to the inspection and avoid re-inspection fees.
