  • Construction Boom

September has always been a big month for demolition and construction starts.

And based on the number of homes going down, the local contractors and suppliers should find steady work all winter.

All good news for our local economy.

By the way, the Stone Harbor “house” pictured was purchased in the spring for $6,600,000!  Ocean front location, and an over-sized lot.

  • September Walks

Vibrant sunrise/sunset colors greet me on my morning and evening walks- the only benefit of shorter days.

Our fall colors include: goldenrod blooming along the beach paths, marsh grass fading from bright green to orange, and the leaves turning in the “forest” areas of the high dunes and bird sanctuary.

  • September Swarm

I asked Ann McElhatton, the author of the blog Beach Chair Scientist to provide more information regarding the September ritual of the swallows.

To me, the sight of the birds is a tell tale sign of fall.

    Thanks, Ann!

  • Chilly Start

Colors of the morning sky: pink, golden yellow, and then a brilliant blue.  Happy Monday!

  • Welcome Fall 2012

Right on cue: a bright and chilly Sunday morning.

Planning ahead: The annual Avalon Chamber Seafood Festival will be held Columbus Day Weekend, October 6th and 7th.  Food, music, and vendors at 29th Street and Avalon Avenue.  That same weekend, participants of the Cape Express Soccer Tournament take over the fields in Avalon and Stone Harbor.  And on Saturday, October 6th, the Green Fair will take place inside the Avalon Community Hall from 10am to 3pm.

  • Still Summer

Well, at least until 10:49am :)

Fall beach days bring us closer to the dunes (a warmer spot when there’s a cool breeze).  A different perspective from the beach chair.

    Enjoy the weekend!

  • Changing Weather

A stormy start for our Tuesday.  The winds are howling-  it sounds like winter…yet feels like summer!

And, the humidity is back- carried in on the strong sea breeze.

The ocean swells in the inlet are impressive; causing the occasional wave to splash over the rock sea wall.

Beautiful September beach days are expected to return by later this week.

  • September Views

The incredible views continue- this picture was taken last night just after sunset.

  • Fall Frenzy

My logical side knows that I have time before the weather turns cold. Yet I’m feeling the pressure of “one last day for ….”

I’m regularly checking the tide schedule to see how I can fit in kayaking before or after work.  And, definitely a few hours on the beach.  Oh, and a bike ride now that the summer traffic is gone.

Even the daily sunrise and sunset- the colors this time of year are  so incredible…I hate to miss even one!

The burden of island life 😉

  • Sunrise Walks

I know I’m on the beach early when I see the glow of the Wildwood Ferris wheel in the distance!  The lights are turned off at sunrise.

Another perfect September morning :)  Enjoy the weekend.
