  • Blue Moon

Well, the ocean and the sky were blue!

  • Preparations for the Weekend

Heavy “traffic volume” in a shore town means the runners, bikes, and baby strollers out number the cars!  That will definitely be the case this weekend.

The beaches are groomed, and we are ready!

  • Labor Day Weekend

How did that happen?  Didn’t we JUST watch the fireworks??

The annual Tim Kerr 7 Mile Island Run will take place on Sunday, September 2nd.  As always…I will be helping with registration in the air conditioned Community Hall ;)

Looking forward to a busy week and weekend on the island.

  • “This Will Be Funny”

Okay…that was NOT my first thought when I crashed in my kayak this morning.

I was just starting out- and I know to wait between sets of waves for the lull.  However, this morning, the breaking waves weren’t cooperating…and I decided to forge ahead.

As I was paddling out, a large wave broke over my head and turned the boat sideways.  I wasn’t in deep water yet, so I scraped along the bottom (did you know you can get really sandy while IN the ocean??) and ended up below the boat.

I knew I twisted my back when I tried to get up.  Knew the boat hit my face, but didn’t feel the “egg” right away.   Briefly thought about setting the purple kayak free in the ocean 😉

So, I went home with a bruised ego (of course people on the beach were watching), sore back, scraped shoulder…and a very attractive black eye.

P.S. It’s been a full week since my kayaking mishap. My side is still a sore, and the black eye is fading to an ugly yellow (and can be partially disguised with make-up). The former hockey players in my office have no sympathy!

Taking a break from ocean kayaking for awhile…

  • Monday

A bit overcast today- and slightly cooler temperatures.  Is this our first sign of fall?  No rain, so still a good day for a bike ride, or reading on the porch.

The downtown shopping areas were busy (store owners LOVE a cloudy day).  Guessing there were lines for the movies…and crowds out at the Cape May County Zoo.

P.S. Started this post earlier today. By mid-afternoon, the sun made an appearance, and families hurried to the beach!

  • Sunday Sights

Seen my morning walk: surfers in wet suits, long sleeve t-shirts, and a few long pants.  After a summer of high temperatures…do we now feel chilled at 70 degrees??

And a heads up for later: today is the annual Tour de Shore Bar Crawl through Avalon and Stone Harbor.  Watch out for costumed participants on bikes, and rented trolleys.  Always a bit entertaining!

  • Yikes!

Did you hear that??  It’s the sound of property owners gasping as they open last month’s electric bill.

Due to the excessive heat and humidity, air conditioners have been running steady for most of the summer.  Even frugal owners who set the thermostat at 78/79 degrees and close their west facing blinds (like me) are shocked by the amount of the bill.

Thankful for a comfortable, dry breeze this morning.  Fresh air is once again swirling around the inside of my house!

  • Beach Shoes

I admire an organized family 🙂

  • Birders

    A sign of fall?

The birders are returning to Stone Harbor Point.

I noticed a couple sitting IN the water this morning to capture their shot.  And another woman was walking toward the ocean with a large camera and tripod.

    ‘Tis the season!

P.S.  A fun treat- this is what happens when a photographer/videographer vacations in Stone Harbor: http://vimeo.com/47427544

  • Saturday Sun

Was able to walk between rain showers this morning 🙂

    Have a nice weekend!
