  • Winter Beach Treasures

Very “profitable” morning walks this week-  found a total of 5 sand dollars and a unique variety of sea glass!

    Treasure hunting tips:

Search at low tide – plus easier to walk on the hard sand!

Check around the jetties -items accumulate near the rocks.

Sand dollars are usually in the hard sand down by the water- sometimes partially buried so easy to miss.

Sea glass is often mixed in with clusters of small shells near the water’s edge.  A sunny day helps – easier to see a reflection off the glass.

    Happy hunting!

  • Dune Grass Planting

I’ve written about my personal experience with dune grass planting as a child growing up on the island.

Needless to say, the finished product way back then looked a bit different than the symmetrical rows pictured!

Although I have twice seen a bald eagle on the beach, I’m designating the snowy owl as the official shore mascot for the Eagles.

On the back up team- the common neighborhood skunk 😉

  • Need a Beach Day?

Because I am booking vacation rentals for tenants every day, I have summer on my mind.

It’s so much easier to cope with cold temperatures and snow if you have a plan of escape 😎

  • Ice Age!

Foggy morning and huge ice boulders along the water’s edge!  Really a unique sight…

  • Monday Thaw?

The sun is out and the air temperatures are noticeably warmer 🙂

The beach is still frozen over- check out the “high tide” line of ice!  And there are giant piles of snow around the island ready to melt away.

P.S.  On a quick lunch break walk, I saw a property owner digging out his driveway with a lacrosse stick!  He drove down to check his house, but didn’t think to bring a shovel.  He was able to access the shed with his kids’ sports equipment.  There was also a tennis racket next to him in the snow, but I guess the lacrosse stick was more effective  😉
