Good news…the equipment is in place on the 9th Street beach for the Avalon beach fill project. Tractors are connecting pipes and preparing the work area.

The pumped sand will cover the exposed rocks at the edge of the dunes- allowing for safe pathways to the new beach (working south from 9th to 26th Streets).
Just in time for summer!
5/13/10 Update: Great Lakes Dredging Company has arranged for an additional dredge in order to complete the 2 projects quickly. Work in Avalon will start on May 20th, and be completed by June 6th. Sea Isle’s project will be completed by June 12th.

As it turns out the beach dredging was NOT completed in early June. We rented a house in Avalon, on a beach block, for our one and only trip to the beach in ate June 2010. The beach was completely closed at 16th street. It didn’t reopen until Tuesday but only from a fence at 16th street. Immediately to the south, was tons of equipment that ran 24/7. We could hear the equipment from our porch and had equipment on our beach each and every day of our rental. I have a huge complaint with (****) . Their rep promised to call us if the dredging was not completed by the time of our rental. He did NOT. He failed to inform us of the condition of the beach and they refuse to reimburse us any money. We paid a LOT for beach block benefits and instead paid for a construction site. They KNEW of the closure, but did not inform us. HOW unethical can (***) be? How can they get away with lies to the consumer?
I eliminated the local agency name from your post before publishing. You certainly are entitled to your complaint- but as a fellow real estate agent, I don’t want to be in the middle of your issue.
With each beach fill project, the Borough announces the schedule based on their contract with the dredging company. Weather and mechanical problems are not factored in to the completion date. The only way I was able to accurately report on the progress of the 2011 beach fill (in Avalon and Stone Harbor this year) was by actually visiting the site. There is a small window of time after the spring coastal storms and summer season to complete these massive projects.
