I wonder if the feral cats were placed in temporary shelters?? There’s a scary bunch that hang out by the Community Hall parking lot!
I have a picture in my office of an adorable group of young children ;) on the 25th Street beach in Avalon- taken early 1960’s. The boardwalk was in place, but beach access was literally “under the boardwalk”.
That was before dune grass  plantings and feral cats forced us to go up and over!Â
The Borough of Avalon recently added lattice below the boardwalk adjacent to the 28th Street parking area- guessing it’s to stop blowing trash.
Weird winter weather…a major thunderstorm tonight at the shore.
On the plus side: the rain is rinsing road salt off our cars and “ocean” salt off our windows!
Walking on the beach in time to watch the sunrise this morning- another mild day at the shore!

I’m counting on the combination of spring fever and cabin fever to bring customers to our office today 🙂
For many of us, visits to Cape May are limited to the beach side promenade or one of the many popular restaurants.
Now that my mother lives in Cape May full time, I am better able to appreciate the character of this charming city.

If you enjoy looking at houses (and who doesn’t?), walk the side streets around town. There are gingerbread cottages, Victorian mansions, and grand old beach homes. The upkeep must be overwhelming- it takes a special person to respect the history of a home and live with imperfection!

I’m one of 4 sisters, born within a 6 year span (a fine example of the rhythm method at work!).Â
We were fortunate to be raised at the beach (our summer friends would ask if we had class on the beach instead of inside a school). We made forts in the dunes (sorry- that was wrong) and the back bay was our swimming hole.
We never consider a “beach day” a waste of time- and have passed along our love for the shore to the next generation.
As we face the 1/2 century mark together (gulp), the beach has been our constant. It’s our place to talk, laugh, walk ,and eat snacks without guilt. And, it’s the place that holds our best family memories. Â
A sentimental thought for the January birthday girls…plus the oldest one in the lead since May 🙂
According to an article posted on http://www.987thecoast.com/  Avalon and Sea Isle City received an acceptable  bid for a joint beach fill project scheduled for this spring. The beaches from 9th Street south to 26th Street in Avalon will be replenished with 500,000 cubic yards of sand. In Sea Isle City, 700,000 cubic yards of sand will replenish 73rd to 94th Streets. Great news just in time for our 2010 summer season!
I was looking through pictures on my computer, and this one from last summer made me smile (of course!)

Looks pretty…but I have to admit, I didn’t stay outside for long.  The cold, northwest winds are a deterrent to a walk on the beach!
