The channel between Stone Harbor Point and North Wildwood has been narrow for years. The numerous sand bars are major obstacles for boaters. Occasionally, I even hit the mud in my kayak!
Yet, Friday’s blow out tide exposed even more sand. It really did appear that we could walk across the inlet over to Anglesea!
Warm sunshine and mild temperatures- a well deserved break for all of the coastal communities.
The business owners in Avalon and Stone Harbor are returning to their normal routine as quickly as possible. The progress so far is amazing.
So visit, shop, eat, and enjoy the weekend! We appreciate the support…Â
A representative from FEMA just stopped in our office with important information. There is assistance available for local property and business owners with flood damage.
Even if you have already contacted your insurance company, make sure to register with FEMA:
Call 800-621-3362 or www.disasterassistance.gov
You will receive a 9 digit FEMA registration number.
Hearing from loyal 7 Mile Beach vacationers; they are concerned about us, the town, and of course…the beach.
Beach access remains limited until the paths are repaired. Many walkways were damaged or partially washed away by Sandy.
When you walk along the beach, you will see erosion to the dunes (varies by location). Yet, the ocean DID NOT breach our sand dunes- great news!
And, you will also see this:Â a beautiful beach and ocean!Â
A whole new level of appreciation for our little island…
A portion of the rock wall along Avalon’s inlet was damaged in last week’s storm.
There was also some erosion to the sand next to the 8th Street jetty. I took these pictures today at high tide, and waves were breaking over the rocks.
The ocean side of the rock wall is intact.
A local organization is making it easy to help nearby shore residents displaced by Sandy: Lunch with Lynch web site
It’s an established charitable group- you can be assured that your donation will be put to good use!
I dropped off groceries and Acme gift cards the other day: 15th and Central Avenue at the North Wildwood Fire House. Donations of gift cards are encouraged.
We received this notice from our local Board of Realtors:
The Ocean County Board of REALTORS® is requesting assistance with temporary or short-term housing rentals for NJ residents displaced due to the storm. Please contact twissel@oceancountyrealtors.org
If you own a shore home and would be interested in renting, please contact me, or the name referenced above.
Only minor tidal flooding – no worse than we see during a typical winter storm. Sunny, and warmer weather PROMISED for the weekend!

Mixed Emotions
With every walk, I feel mixed emotions. Obviously, I’m so grateful to be able to walk around the island again; as well as get back to work and a normal routine.
Yet, I also see the destruction left from the storm. It’s minor compared with other shore communities north of us- but still sad to see.
Property and business owners are working through the clean up and rebuilding process. Bay front owners are arranging repairs to their docks and bulkheads (and searching for wayward floating docks/boats). The public works crews continue to clean up debris and make necessary repairs to walkways, etc.
The lower picture is of the “Hobie Cat” beach south of the 123rd Street parking lot in Stone Harbor. The broken wooden posts at the water’s edge (high tide) are the sail boat slip markers that previously stood just 15′ or so from the dune.
