Warm sunshine and mild temperatures- a well deserved break for all of the coastal communities.
The business owners in Avalon and Stone Harbor are returning to their normal routine as quickly as possible. The progress so far is amazing.

A representative from FEMA just stopped in our office with important information. There is assistance available for local property and business owners with flood damage.
Even if you have already contacted your insurance company, make sure to register with FEMA:
Call 800-621-3362 or www.disasterassistance.gov
You will receive a 9 digit FEMA registration number.
Hearing from loyal 7 Mile Beach vacationers; they are concerned about us, the town, and of course…the beach.
Beach access remains limited until the paths are repaired. Many walkways were damaged or partially washed away by Sandy.
When you walk along the beach, you will see erosion to the dunes (varies by location). Yet, the ocean DID NOT breach our sand dunes- great news!

A whole new level of appreciation for our little island…
A portion of the rock wall along Avalon’s inlet was damaged in last week’s storm.
There was also some erosion to the sand next to the 8th Street jetty. I took these pictures today at high tide, and waves were breaking over the rocks.
The ocean side of the rock wall is intact.

I dropped off groceries and Acme gift cards the other day: 15th and Central Avenue at the North Wildwood Fire House. Donations of gift cards are encouraged.

Only minor tidal flooding – no worse than we see during a typical winter storm. Sunny, and warmer weather PROMISED for the weekend!

The North Wildwood Fire House at 15th and Central Avenue is accepting donations to assist the displaced residents from our neighboring shore towns.  Two hundred families will be relocated to the Wildwoods as temporary shelter.
I shopped at the Acme for non-perishable food items, toiletries, baby items, soap, laundry detergent, etc. and also purchased a few Acme gift cards.  The firemen unloaded the bags from my car and will take care of sorting and distribution.

Unfortunately, our candy accompanied us to PA for the evacuation…and was put to good use!
I have some left. And a box of granola bars in the cabinet ;)Â

Walking Distance??
The channel between Stone Harbor Point and North Wildwood has been narrow for years. The numerous sand bars are major obstacles for boaters. Occasionally, I even hit the mud in my kayak!
Yet, Friday’s blow out tide exposed even more sand. It really did appear that we could walk across the inlet over to Anglesea!
