Winter of 2013/2014: challenging beach walks…yet many opportunities for unique pictures!
In case you missed my pictures posted on Twitter yesterday:
Snow + wind = serious snow drifts along the beach. Â One even formed in the shape of a wave!
P.S. As of this afternoon, much of the snow is already melted.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Belfast, Northern Ireland-  my husband was disappointed that Delaney’s restaurant didn’t sell logo t-shirts. The owner said that’s “an American thing”!
On my father’s side: my grandmother was from County Clare in the Republic of Ireland, and my grandfather grew up near Ballymena and the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland. A real mixed marriage!
They met and married in Philadelphia, and vacationed in Stone Harbor each summer when their 6 children were young.  In the 1950s, my grandparents built a year round house in Avalon. A family business brought the sons and daughters (some with spouses and young children) from Philadelphia to Avalon shortly thereafter.
After visiting the beautiful windswept coast of Northern Ireland, I can totally understand my grandfather’s love of the shore.  Sand in our shoes… and salt air in our lungs 😉
Sláinte!
Pictures from our 2008 trip to Northern Ireland.
An almost full moon, and last day for beach vehicles on Stone Harbor Point (other beach areas open until March 31st).  We were able to watch the moon rise, the sun set, and even photograph a pair of skittish oystercatchers (versus seagulls that will practically allow you to trip over them).
It was a beautiful night. Â Oh, and I’m ignoring the weather forecast for snow 😉
The crazy participants of the Stone Harbor Shiver lucked out.  A reasonable day…for March!  Click HERE for a link to the Facebook page for today’s events.
My version of a polar plunge? Walking along the water’s edge at sunrise…bundled up and enjoying the views 😉
Every rental property in Avalon and Stone Harbor must pass an annual rental license inspection.  And, every property transferred (sold) must pass a similar fire safety inspection.
A common reason for failure? Â Older smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Â If the detectors are more than 10 years old, they need to be replaced. Â This applies to both hard wired and battery operated detectors.
Hard wired detectors MUST be replaced with new hard wired units.
Sharing my early morning views- 57th Street beach path in Avalon; and looking south over the WIDE beach.
Although we are pleased with the pace of our summer rental bookings, we still have plenty of properties available. Â It’s definitely not too late!
And, with an active sale market, this is the time of year when new rental inventory is added.
For example:
25 W 30th Street, Avalon Sleeps 10, with a POOL
280 64th Street, Avalon Sleeps 10, with great open floor plan and sun decks
6260 Dune Drive, Avalon  Traditional 2 story home close to the beach
Thank you for spreading the word to friends and relatives looking for a vacation rental in Avalon or Stone Harbor, NJ. Â I’m here to help!

Sea Glass Yoga?
It was a good morning for treasure hunting along the north end beaches in Avalon (see picture of today’s haul of sea glass).
A long beach walk provides the obvious exercise…plus the bonus of graceful squats and bends picking up, and then rinsing off pieces of sea glass.
When I say “ugh”, I really mean “om” 😉
