  • Pictures

Next on the learning curve…pictures from my new phone for my blog and Twitter http://twitter.com/AnnDelaneyBeach

This required removing my gloves (which of course dropped onto the sand), looking for the right key strokes (challenging when you don’t bring your reading glasses on a beach walk!), and then sending/sharing it with the correct account.

Reward: a quality picture and a nice walk 🙂

  • First Frost

The first frost of the season for Avalon and Stone Harbor.

Time to replace the fleece jacket with the fashionable 😉 winter coat for my beach walks.

I purchased my LL Bean classic a few years ago- mainly for trips out to Colorado (our son used to live there).  It’s a unique pinkish orange color, had a minus something temperature rating in the catalog…and it was on sale!

A beautiful morning- bright sunshine, calm winds, and low tide (with a few prize pieces of sea glass along the water’s edge).

  • Big Night in Stone Harbor

The annual Stone Harbor Christmas Parade-  a Seven Mile Beach tradition.

Summer home owners and visitors join the island’s year round residents for this BIG event.

How can you recognize a year round resident?  They are properly dressed for the weather!  The summer homeowners are wearing loafers (thankfully, with socks), and a light jacket from their beach house closet.  Brrr…

A fun night out on the town 🙂

  • Holiday Idea- Beach Tags

Avalon and Stone Harbor are selling Holiday Beach Tags for the 2011 season.

$20 (same as the discounted pre-season price), and valid for sand time in either community.

To purchase, stop by the Avalon Rescue Squad, Friday November 26th from 11am to 4pm; or 21st Street Veteran’s Plaza from 4pm to 7pm (during the Christmas Tree lighting).

Stone Harbor tags sold weekdays at Borough Hall – 95th and Second Avenue, and the Chamber Office on 96th Street.

  • The Avalon turkey??

Why yes, there is a wild turkey roaming the streets of Avalon.

He prefers prime real estate…residing in the high dunes around 54th Street.

And he ventures out along Dune Drive on a regular basis- showing no concern about the approaching holiday 😉

  • Thanksgiving Weekend

The business communities of Avalon and Stone Harbor will reward those who visit the island with great holiday events (and sales).

For the complete weekend schedule:  http://www.indulgeinavalon.com/  and  http://www.stoneharborbeach.com/

*Stop by Power Play Realty on Friday 11/26 for a free logo sand pail filled with home made cookies!

Be sure to find time for a walk on the beach, too!

  • A Different Shore

We recently won an over-night stay at an Atlantic City Casino/Hotel at a local charity function.  Even though we live just a short drive away…it’s a completely different “shore” experience.

The Atlantic City casinos don’t want visitors to know that they are surrounded by water.  We had a nice view from our room…but that was the only time we saw daylight!

Smoking is a more prevalent than I realized.  The “smoking sections” are scattered around the casino floor, circulating the smell throughout the facility- yuck!

The Pier (formally Ocean One) has great dining options…and ocean views on the top floor. And, the outlets at the Walk offer a nice variety of shops.  Expensive parking and creepy restrooms are the biggest disadvantages.

Back home in our peaceful beach community- I prefer our low key “Jersey Shore”  😉

  • Warm & Windy

Strong gusty winds throughout the day.  From indoors, it sounded like a cold winter day.  Yet mild temperatures prevailed.

The dunes partially blocked the wind for my morning walk, and the warm sun felt great.    Only minimal “sand blasting” of exposed skin!

Is your shore house ready for the colder weather?

Outside shower drained?  Heat on? Foundation vents closed? Outside furniture stored or secured?

If you need suggestions for winterizing your property, I’m happy to help.

  • Videos for 295 65th Street, Avalon, NJ

Just uploaded 3 interior videos for this south end Avalon townhouse:

Caution- may cause motion sickness similar to an IMAX production  😉

  • November Weather?

It couldn’t be a prettier day for November.

Warm sun and calm winds- just perfect.

Saw one of our year round neighbors as I walked off the beach this morning.  Like me, he grew up in Avalon, and is grateful to live in our unique environment.

My neighbor talked about surfing later this afternoon (he’s still a surfer dude…with a responsible job on the side!).  And I said I hope to kayak in the bay after work.  We joked about the pressure to take advantage of the weather “one last time” before the arrival of winter.

    Enjoy the day!
