Monday Views

Kayaking before work this morning gave me a close up view of the ospreys hanging out at their waterfront “condo”.  A great way to start the day!

Oh, and this is new.  A flag pole out in the marsh.  Wonder if there’s a spot light on the flag at night??

2012 Rental Season

Saturday, June 16th.

Our first big rental check-in weekend of the season. And, even after years and years of experience, I continue to be amazed (read: frustrated) with a handful of  property owners.  They receive leases and checks months in advance, yet forget this arrangement includes prepping their property for the tenant’s arrival??

Common over-sights: cable not functioning (a HUGE problem for most tenants), outside showers not cleaned or turned on, lack of spring cleaning (dusty ceiling fans and return vents), and shortage of basic household supplies.

Today, a tenant checked in and the main electric breaker was off.  That meant a warm refrigerator for their just purchased food.  And, no power also meant the Direct TV system had to be reprogrammed. That was fun…

At the end of the day, I unlocked a home for a late arrival. With the cool breeze, I decided to open the windows.  The older, triple track style storm sashes were still down on ALL of the windows. That was fun, too…

Okay, I had some ice cream.  Feeling less cranky, and recharged for tomorrow 🙂

Sunday: I should note that the majority of our rental property owners work very hard to prepare for the season.  In fact, many owners started out as summer tenants themselves, and they bring that perspective along as a homeowner.  Grateful to those owners for making my job easier!

Local Lingo

If you hear an island resident say “I have to go off shore”…this is what they mean.

Or, they may say they are going “to the Court House”, which is not connected in any way with  jury duty 😉

“On the island” is a common reference and applies to any of the area barrier islands.  The speaker assumes you know which island based on residency.

So to summarize, we limit our trips “to the Court House” and “off shore” in the summer months.  We genuinely don’t like to “leave the island” more than necessary!

Beach Visitors

What is the expression?  Lovely weather for ducks?  Apparently, that’s true even at the beach 🙂

I’m Working…without e-mail

The e-mail server for our office has been down since early this morning.  No messages in or out…very frustrating.

If you need to reach me, there’s always the old fashioned phone method 609-967-7950;  or message me on Twitter  @anndelaneybeach

Hope to be back on line again SOON!

P.S. Back on line as of this afternoon.

Sunday Sights

What do you do before work??

We open an hour later on Sundays, so I have extra time for a morning activity.  Today- ocean kayaking.

The conditions were ideal (for me): warm water, and minimal waves/ wind.  I am more comfortable in the bay, but the ocean offers the potential for dolphin encounters…so I give myself a pep talk and go!

This morning, the dolphins were feeding farther out than I wanted to venture.  Two pelicans skimmed the water near me – they are HUGE as they approach you at eye level!  Overall, a peaceful and beautiful morning on the ocean.

AND, I didn’t crash on my approach back to the beach 🙂

Beach Day

This was the view from my beach chair yesterday…a perfect beach day!

The island is busy:  a few rental check in’s, and many property owners in town to enjoy the warm weather.

I am back in work mode, and in the office all weekend if you have any real estate questions :)   609-967-7950

E-mail Spam

I had to replace my phone the other day (it had an ugly encounter with a cement driveway).  While setting up the e-mail on the new phone, my account was compromised.

So, if you received spam e-mail messages from me during the last 2 days…I’m sorry!  The problem has been resolved.
