  • Pedestrian Law

    As of April 1st, 2010 the revised pedestrian safety law has been put into effect. New Jersey Statute 39:4-36 states: “The driver of a vehicle must stop and stay stopped for a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.” It is important to note that this revised law requires drivers to stop and stay stopped for pedestrians until they have exited the crosswalk.

    New Jersey Statute 39:4-36 also states: “no pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close that it is impossible for the driver to yield.”

    Confusion continues between pedestrians/drivers.  Please be careful!

  • TK Charities- Summer Events

    The annual Islandman Triathlon will be held on Saturday, July 3rd.   For more information: http://www.timkerrcharities.org/

    If you will be in town that weekend, please note that Avalon Avenue and First Avenue between 8th and 40th Streets will be CLOSED to all traffic from 7 am to 9am for the safety of the 400 participants.

  • Update- Avalon Beach Fill

    9thStJuneThe equipment is in place at the end of the 9th Street beach path.  The dredge is in the inlet and actively pumping sand on the Sea Isle City beaches.

    A worker for the dredging company said they expect to start pumping sand on the Avalon beaches within the next 2 days and complete the project in 10 days total.

  • 7 Mile Restaurant Week

    diningReminder- The first annual 7 Mile Beach Restaurant Week starts tomorrow, June 4th.  49 local restaurants will participate in this event.  Special prices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner ($29.10 per person for a 3 course dinner).  Reservations accepted.

  • Everyone is Here!

    MayDuneDrThere’s no question- this is a successful Memorial Day weekend for Avalon and Stone Harbor.  Owners and visitors are enjoying great weather, too!

    Bikes, joggers, cars,and strollers are everywhere.  On my drive to work, I passed many families heading to the beach for the day.

    Tomorrow, both communitieswill honor the holiday with parades and ceremonies.  9am in Avalon- 30th Street to 21st Street; and 12 noon along 96th Street in Stone Harbor.

  • Mother Nature’s clean up

    ReedsThe ocean has an efficient method of removing both natural and man-made debris. 

    The higher than average tides (from the full moon) and a rough ocean deposited marsh reeds on the beach overnight.  The beach raking machines were out early to clear the sand for a busy beach weekend!

    During my morning walk, I picked up trash that washed in with the reeds- a few plastic sports drink bottles and Mylar balloons (a wake up call on the waste produced with everyday products).  The Borough and individual efforts are similar to cleaning before company arrives…we are proud of our seashore community and want it seen in the best light!

    dredgeAfter a few minor weather delays, the dredges are in place in Townsend’s Inlet and the beach fill project is underway.

    Crews will work 24/7 until the job is complete.
