Mauve and Sea Foam

TubWhile previewing a home today, and an agent commented on the “pink” counter tops. Obviously, she was too young to remember the popular decorating theme of the 80s and early 90s…especially homes at the shore.

This particular sale property was custom built in 1987, and in many ways, ahead of the curve with amenities.  Unfortunately, it’s hard for today’s buyer to see past popcorn ceilings, shiny cabinetry, “mauve” bathroom fixtures,  plush carpeting, wall paper, etc.

A seller may argue that the house is perfectly functional, yet a buyer will focus on the land value and likely see the home as a tear down.

Recently, a south end Avalon beach block home (built in 1996) was demolished shortly after settlement.  Especially in locations with premium land values, the tear down option provides buyers the opportunity to build the beach house of their dreams!

Sunday Sights

Watched the sky colors change from bright pink…to gold…to a soft blue…all during a long morning beach walk.  Nice start to a busy work day!

The Shore’s (Chilly) Little Secret

A common statement: “I can’t wait until spring”.  Yet shore residents say it with a bit less enthusiasm.

It’s not that we want the brutal winter weather to continue…it’s just that “spring” by the ocean is often VERY chilly.

This time of year, the sea breeze kicks in- blowing cold, damp air over the island.  Inland (off shore) it can be warm and sunny.  Cross over the bridge, and the temperature drops at least 10 degrees (of course we LOVE this phenomenon in July!)

So if you are coming down, bring a few extra layers for a long walk on the beach 😉

Sunny View

With the dunes to block the wind, and the warm sun on my face…I feel optimistic that spring will EVENTUALLY arrive!

Saturday Sights

Only a “glimpse” of a sunrise this morning.  Temperatures have improved, but the sea breeze is keeping it chilly on the beach.  Overall, not a bad day for the (crazy) Polar Bear Plunge participants in Sea Isle City!

Storm Chasing

Left the office for a few minutes to check out the ocean.  Best spot to see the power of a Nor’easter?  Front and center on the northeast corner of the island.

I was at a safe distance from the water on Avalon’s 8th Street jetty…but returned to work a bit “salty”!

Weekend Plans

Someone on Twitter asked about pedestrian access over the Townsends Inlet bridge for the annual Sea Isle City Polar Plunge.  According to a sign posted on the Avalon side of Ocean Drive, pedestrians and bicycles are prohibited.
