Moon Rise…Sunset

Not the correct name of the song- but my title applies tonight.  The setting sun was a HUGE red ball reflecting over the calm back bay.  And the almost full moon was bright white over the ocean.  No waves, so the surfers were just hanging with the dolphins.  Now the sky is a brilliant pink and blue- beautiful!

Bike Lane- update

bikelane.jpg  I had my concerns about the bike lane, but I have to admit- it works.  The bike riders stay off to the side and for the most part- ride in the correct direction.  I feel safer when I am on my bike; and when driving, I’m glad the young children have guidelines to stay focused on the road.

Sunday Sights

lifeguardstand.jpg  Not sure why the life guard stand was on the wrong side of the beach path this morning??  At first I thought the beach patrol was concerned about high tide…but all of the other stands were in their normal locations.  Maybe it was “borrowed” for the night?

fog.jpg  Great waves for the surfers, thanks to Bertha.  The churned up cool water created a fog along the water’s edge, obstructing the normally clear view to North Wildwood from the south end of Stone Harbor.

A picture perfect beach day for “shore”  🙂

Why People Buy?

Someone once commented that the buyers in Avalon and Stone Harbor are the “haves…and the have mores”.

However for most families, buying a shore house is not about keeping up with their neighbors.  They love the area, have great memories from their childhood, and want to pass along that joy to their children and grandchildren.

Pride of ownership is evident and it adds to the overall look of the island. This time of year especially, we admire the flower gardens, manicured lawns, and attractively decorated porches.

Back to Work

anncrede.jpg  My family has all gone home…so back to the real world for me.  I’m lucky that my real world includes living and working near the beach- so not too bad!

Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary- walking paths

The walking paths are partially completed, and the benches and flower gardens look beautiful.  Next on the plan- attracting more species of birds!

It’s worth a visit- even if to just appreciate the 6 block span left undeveloped on an island of expensive real estate.

Happy 4th!

4thjuly.jpg  The weather was a bit unsettled and cool this morning, but it turned into a beautiful beach day.  The Stone Harbor fireworks started promptly at 9pm with light rain…and a soaking rain by the time we were walking home!

Fireworks again tomorrow night on the 30th Street beach in Avalon.  Enjoy the holiday weekend 🙂

Life is Good…

briancrede.jpg   A great weekend…perfect beach days and cool nights.

The Avalon Islandman Triathlon was held Sunday – 334 men and women (ranging in age from 13 to 67!) participated in the event.  An additional 198 children (ages 7 through 14) competed in the Kid’s Triathlon.  The ocean was cold and rough…but the racers enjoyed the challenge.

See race results: http://www.lin-mark.com/

The Avalon Beach Patrol, Borough of Avalon employees, Avalon Fire and Rescue, and local residents generously gave their time (over 200 volunteers in all).  Funds raised will be donated to local organizations.
