In Avalon, leashed dogs are permitted on the beach only in the off season- September 30th through March 1st. Â In season, dogs are not permitted on the beach.
Stone Harbor offers more options- dog walking is permitted on all beaches between 80th and 122nd Street from 7pm to sunset in season. Â Off season (mid-September to mid-May)Â leashed dogs are permitted any time of the day. Â The Stone Harbor Point Conservation area (south of 122nd Street) is off limits to dogs year round.
That said…
I walk on the beach every day year round, and there are often as many dogs as people 🙂
Over Memorial Day weekend, I was jumped on by an overzealous Doodle, and then decided to walk off the beach after spotting an unleashed Doberman!
I am happy to share the sand with your family pet, but PLEASE keep them on a leash.

I often multi-task by combining a walk with a work errand.  This morning, I wanted to check on a property on the bay with closing  scheduled for 9am.
Peaceful water views  as I crossed the bridge at 104th Street.
In case you are curious…this is what $3,575,000 looks like on the bay in Stone Harbor!  The home was demolished to make way for the buyer’s new construction. An oversized 90′ X 100′ lot with 4 boat slips.
