Quick Walk

Quiet afternoon in work, so time for quick walk to check out the snow flurries…and the beach.

Summary: windy, cold, and yes, snowy (visible in the lower picture- against the pine trees).   Nice views, though 😉

P.S. Glad I walked after lunch. It’s 3:45pm and snowing like crazy!

Sunday Sights

A much nicer day than expected.  Sunny and mild so far.

Proof of our roller coaster weather?  Outdoor furniture and snow shovels sharing space on shore house decks 😉

Summer Rentals

Tis’ the season for newspaper articles and TV news segments regarding summer rentals along the Jersey shore.

RentSighFacts for Avalon and Stone Harbor:

1) The full season bookings (Memorial Day to Labor Day) are well ahead of recent years.

2) The weekly rentals are strong, yet there are still plenty of great options available.

3) We often add new inventory this time of year- for example: new owners decide to offer their property for rent.

4) Connecting with a knowledgable local agent is important.  Web sites are informative, but it’s still best to talk with a live person before booking!

Visit the Power Play web site:  http://www.powerplayrealty.com/rentals    And, I am here to help-  ann@anndelaney.com    609-967-7950

Thanks!

Sea Glass Yoga?

It was a good morning for treasure hunting along the north end beaches in Avalon (see picture of today’s haul of sea glass).

A long beach walk provides the obvious exercise…plus the bonus of graceful squats and bends picking up, and then rinsing off pieces of sea glass.

When I say “ugh”, I really mean “om” 😉

Snow Day

In case you missed my pictures posted on Twitter yesterday:

Snow + wind = serious snow drifts along the beach.  One even formed in the shape of a wave!

P.S. As of this afternoon, much of the snow is already melted.

Irish Roots

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Belfast, Northern Ireland-  my husband was disappointed that Delaney’s restaurant didn’t sell logo t-shirts. The owner said that’s “an American thing”!

On my father’s side: my grandmother was from County Clare in the Republic of Ireland, and my grandfather grew up near Ballymena and the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland.  A real mixed marriage!

They met and married in Philadelphia, and vacationed in Stone Harbor each summer when their 6 children were young.  In the 1950s, my grandparents built a year round house in Avalon.  A family business brought the sons and daughters (some with spouses and young children) from Philadelphia to Avalon shortly thereafter.

After visiting the beautiful windswept coast of Northern Ireland, I can totally understand my grandfather’s love of the shore.  Sand in our shoes… and salt air in our lungs 😉

Sláinte!

Pictures from our 2008 trip to Northern Ireland.

Saturday Night at the Shore

An almost full moon, and last day for beach vehicles on Stone Harbor Point (other beach areas open until March 31st).  We were able to watch the moon rise, the sun set, and even photograph a pair of skittish oystercatchers (versus seagulls that will practically allow you to trip over them).

It was a beautiful night.  Oh, and I’m ignoring the weather forecast for snow 😉
