The island is covered with a pretty layer of powdery snow.
Still cold (for now) but gorgeous for my early morning beach walk before work.
A new law in the State of New Jersey charges applicable sales and use tax on short term rentals booked through “transient marketplaces” such as Airbnb, HomeAway, VRBO, and FlipKey.
Vacation rentals arranged through a real estate broker’s office are purposely excluded, and the new tax will not apply.

A clarification on the State of New Jersey and Borough of Avalon/ Borough of Stone Harbor fire inspection code:
1) No changes to the code for properties with hardwired detectors. Â Hardwired smoke detectors must be less than 10 years old.
2) The change applies to properties with stand alone battery operated smoke detectors. Â Those units MUST be swapped out with new detectors that have a 10 year sealed battery. Â Even if the current battery operated detectors were replaced with the past few years, property owners are required to comply with the new code.

I took a “lunch break” walk from my office to check out the beaches after the weekend storm…and watched a few surfers taking advantage of the BIG waves at 10th Street!
Some minor erosion at the north end, causing the 11th Street path to be temporarily fenced off on the beach side. Â From 10th Street north to the jetty, and again from 12th Street south, all beach paths are open. Â And the dunes remain in great shape.
