Even during last week’s heat wave, there was relief at the beach.

Watching the flags over Hoy’s 5 & 10 from my office- a definite south breeze!  Avalon and Stone Harbor offer the best seats in the house during a heatwave 😎
It’s that time of year again- The Islandman Triathlon (a Tim Kerr Charities event).
Race Director Midge Kerr is looking for volunteers along the bike course to monitor traffic. Â This is a closed course event for the safety of the participants (when you see how fast the riders pass, you will understand!)
Saturday, June 30th between 7:15am and 9:45am. Coverage requested for each block on Avalon and First Avenues along the course.
Volunteers will receive a logo shirt, plus witness a fun event!
Please let me know if you are available to help: Â ann.delaney@timkerrsir.com

We all know the seagulls have no fear of humans. Â In fact, they will boldly steal your sandwich at the beach if you are not hiding under an umbrella or towel!
Recently I noticed that a few of the resident oyster catchers are no longer skittish as I walk by.  They have acclimated to sharing the water’s edge 😎
This day is bittersweet for many of us.
My father was just a few years older than I am now when he passed away.
And even after 25 years, the sorrow can quickly rise to the surface.
Yet, I’m so grateful for the gift of watching our 2 sons raise their boys…and my husband  as their “Pop”.
It’s so nice to see the “regulars” back on the beach for my early morning walks. Â Although I casually know a few, for the others I have to make up my own back story.
Recently, I was able to complete the story of a sweet older gentleman because of a random Twitter post.
His grandson wrote a tribute in May- and I recognized the fellow walker from the attached family picture.

In the summer months, we would pass each other on the sand, and smile or wave hello. Â In more recent years, I only saw him when my walks detoured to the street, and I guessed that the sand had become too challenging .
The small world connections are the best part of Twitter and my blog!
Island Weather
During last Saturday’s rental check in, arriving tenants expressed concern about the much hyped weather forecast of “rain all week”.
Although the Saturday afternoon and evening storms were nasty, the remainder of the week has been okay.
We benefit from a sea breeze which often pushes the rain clouds inland…plus we credit the shore bubble!
