Each year, Memorial Day weekend takes us by surprise. Â The island transitions from sleepy to crazy almost over night.
And then just a few days later, we revert back to a quiet beach town…at least for the next 2 weeks!

Historic (and hilarious) photo of “old” Avalon…four sisters growing up on 51st Street.
We were content to turn the picnic table upside down for our make believe boat!
Obviously, I’m the captain because I’m wearing the official bucket 😉
When Comcast moved out of their 32nd Street location, there was a collective groan from property owners and real estate agents!
But good news (at least temporarily)- Comcast is operating out of a trailer in the Community Hall parking lot at 30th and Avalon Avenue.
The trailer will remain until June 18th to accommodate the seasonal start up on the island.
Convenient to pick up your beach tags AND cable boxes in one trip!
After June 18th, all Comcast business will be handled from the new store in Rio Grande  (Shoprite Plaza on Rt 47- Rio Grande Blvd).
The owner of the new movie theater on 96th Street gave me permission for a quick tour to see the progress of the project.
He mentioned the discovery of the original circular ceiling during construction. It’s now the architectural theme for the lobby.
The layout remains similar to the old theater, but includes new features such as: Â stadium seating and a stage in the largest theater to accommodate live performances; a burger bar (as well as other food/drink stations), and balcony sections that can be reserved by groups.

A beautiful, calm morning…perfect for kayaking before work.
